Crystalline bowls are one of the most difficult items to create. Throwing a large 12" plus bowl is already difficult, but the crystalline glaze runs and collects in the bottom of the bowl. We vent some of this molten glass out of the bowl while it is 2300 degrees to keep from over pooling.
I was so excited to see this bowl come out of the kiln. A sea of colbalt blue crystals adorn the lower half, while the top is soft white with gold crystals. The interior of the oval bowl is full of gold crystals on white. Plus there are some unique carvings on the front edge.
This is a legacy family keepsake item. A real one of a kind as the patterns cannot ever be replicated. Both Top and Bottom are very unique. The oval hold huge group salads or pasta. This is a big heavy bowl.
Production Notes - Elegant, precious and one of a kind, the crystal process is difficult, with a high failure rate but the vases are so incredible and beautiful. Each crystal is similar to ice crystals that form on a winter window - you cannot predict or control them. If you are looking for something special - You found it with this line of soft colors and beautiful crystals.
About Our Process:
Items I create are hand-thrown pottery from clay on a wheel in my studio or occasionally hand-formed flat pieces. All are original and one-of-a-kind as there are no production runs of this work. Nor are the pieces dipped in glaze - they are all hand painted with multiple coats to achieve a rich dimensional glaze look. All items are fired in our own kilns twice - a bisque and the final glaze high temperature 2,300 degree firing.
The process is highly laborious, but I love the simple, whimsical and unique look of every piece. I am constantly experimenting with color combinations, design concepts and ultimately the actual use of these pieces for my friends and customers. I hope you enjoy the pieces for many years to come and I look forward to your feedback on my work.
