Crystalline bowls are one of the most difficult items to create. Throwing a large 12" plus bowl is already difficult, but the crystalline glaze runs and collects in the bottom of the bowl. We vent some of this molten glass out of the bowl while it is 2300 degrees to keep from over pooling. This one even shows the vent hole perfectly in the middle. (not to worry, it is sealed)
Is it a bowl or is it a platter - Both? As it has a circumference of 44" - Huge. What makes this one so special is the rich display of colors. The white to copper blend is amazing, but the pool of colbalt at the bottom has so much depth Wow - I love this one and it even has a braided top. Flip it over and it just gets better with a wonderful pattern around the bottom back side.
This is truly a legacy family keepsake item and show stopper. A real one of a kind as the patterns cannot ever be replicated. Both Top and Bottom are very unique.
Production Notes - Elegant, precious and one of a kind, the crystal process is difficult, with a high failure rate but the vases are so incredible and beautiful. Each crystal is similar to ice crystals that form on a winter window - you cannot predict or control them. If you are looking for something special - You found it with this line of soft colors and beautiful crystals.
About Our Process:
Items I create are hand-thrown pottery from clay on a wheel in my studio or occasionally hand-formed flat pieces. All are original and one-of-a-kind as there are no production runs of this work. Nor are the pieces dipped in glaze - they are all hand painted with multiple coats to achieve a rich dimensional glaze look. All items are fired in our own kilns twice - a bisque and the final glaze high temperature 2,300 degree firing.
The process is highly laborious, but I love the simple, whimsical and unique look of every piece. I am constantly experimenting with color combinations, design concepts and ultimately the actual use of these pieces for my friends and customers. I hope you enjoy the pieces for many years to come and I look forward to your feedback on my work.
